The Daring and Kalayope started on the second underground level of the ancient monastery. They followed a viscous trail of blood up a set of steep stairs, encountering what appeared to be a sort of huge blood beast and several flesh golem-like horrors.
The battle began, and much to the group’s dismay it was only a short moment later that Leo succumbed to his injuries and went into unconsciousness. Drake assisted Leo with a healing potion and got him back into the fray and The Daring soon made short work on the unnatural creatures. In the back of the room was a basin and within it was a glowing yellow-green demonic eye, with The Daring took despite Kalayope’s urging that it may be best to leave such evil alone.
There was nothing else to explore in this area so The Daring made their way up a few levels and then followed the other openings in the floors to an area quite similar to where they had encountered the blood monster. Up another set of steep stairs a dim light and a sloppy sound of what might be wet meat slapping on a cutting board could be heard. The Daring began to make their way up the stairs and saw several more of the flesh golem-like horrors and which appeared to be a huge mound of tumorous flesh.
The slop poop ass mound of fleshy tumors was one of the most disgusting enemies The Daring had faced yet, and it even managed to roll its horrific body at Yip, trapping him in some of its folds. It had attempted to do the same to Drake, but he was obviously too strong to be affected by such things. The Daring finished the battle without too much difficulty and again were awarded with a demonic yellow-green eye.
The Daring remembered the statue on the floor above that had glowing eyes and made their way to it. The attempted to fit the demonic eyes into the statue but found that the eye sockets of the statue we solid and were just emitting a yellow-green light. After spending some time attempting to unravel the mystery, they asked Kalayope if any of her studies of this place had given her any insight into this puzzle. After some thinking, she stepped on one of the eyes which caused one eye of the statue to stop emitting light. After that destroyed the second eye the statue began to rumble and slid to the side, revealing a path down to a lower level.
Kalayope eventually discovered a tablet that was able to be moved (I forget exactly what happened with this one) and in the small room behind the tablet the group found a Lute and a Robe, both with magical properties.
The Daring then went to the next level down, which opened in the biggest room that they had been in so far. There was a large pillar at the center of the room, which was surrounded by a thick cloud which had electrical current flowing through it, much like a storm cloud. As the group made its way further into the room that saw a flying half-field and several suits of animated armor and several floating animated swords. A battle began and the half-fiend instantly disappeared. The Daring began to fight the armor and floating swords, when Du’tch made his way around to the opening on another room. In the room he saw the Half-fiend standing in front of a large tablet and appeared to be reading off of it. When Du’tch approached the half-fiend gave a grandiose speech about how The Daring were insignificant compared to him and that he was insignificant compared to the true evil in the monastery. The half-fiend then finished my triggering or summoning two Greater Grell to appear in the main chamber, and he then disappeared again.
The Daring wiped out most of the armor and swords, and began to work on the Grell. Ghazan went over to another side room and saw the half-fiend in front of another tablet, Ghazan used his Oath-bow on him and dealt him a powerful blow but the half-fiend still remained. Ghazan was then attack by one of the Grell, who restrained him with a tentacle and paralyzed him with poison. Leo polymorphed the Grell who had restrained Ghazan, changing him into a turtle, he then entered the room with the half-fiend, and just as he was preparing to disappear again, Leo countered the spell and the half-fiend was stuck in the room. The half-fiend did manage to summon four of the flesh golem-like horrors out in the main chamber though.Drake, Leo and Du’tch continue to deal with the remaining Grell and the flesh-golems. In the room with the half-fiend, Leo again countered his spell which left the half-fiend in the room with Leo and Ghazan. The half-fiend took flight and flew out of the room, but by that time Ghazan had recovered from the poison and shot the half-fiend down. The Daring made short work of the flesh-golems and the polymorphed Grell.
When the last few monsters died they left behind a glowing energy which Kalayope informed them would either heal their wounds, allows them to recover spells or replenish charges on magical items. When the half-fiend died, the cloud around the pillar dissipated and revealed an opening down to the next level. The main chamber held many suits of armor and weapons, without magical properties and various amounts of gold, silver, gems and paintings.
