After dispatching the two dwarves The Daring proceeded to scout the rest of the structures surrounding Durlag’s tower. They first checked out one of the smaller towers. The rest of the group searched around a didn’t see anything of use or value but Yip noticed a metal chest as plain as day. He walked over to the chest and attempted to open it and was unable. After several moments of escalating frustration at trying to get Locke or Drake to check out the chest that no one else could see. After a few moments of pondering, the rest of the group realized it was an invisible chest that only Yip could see because of his Robe. They got the chest unlocked, and Du’tch detected a magical aura coming from the chest once it open. Locke approached the chest and found a false bottom in it. He reached his hand check it out and then set off a magical trap.
There was a reverse gravity spell trap and the entire group ended up flying up into the air. Everyone but Du’tch and Locke were able to grab chains which were attached to the crumbled tower. Dut’ch dimensional doored himself to one of the chains and Yip got his 50 foot rope to Locke, who pulled himself in to the tower. Leo then dispelled the anti-gravity and the group made it to the ground.
The group then checked the wooded Copse and were confronted by an (Elven?…) who asked if the bees sent them. After just a few minor exchanges the Elf (and it’s invisible allies) prepared to attack. Du’tch was able to get a few words in and start a dialogue and eventually the Elf told them that whatever was in the tower killed all of the elves allies. The elf gave The Daring a leaf shape symbol and told them it was part of the key to opening the gate to the main tower.
The Daring then checked the stables a found nothing of interest.
The Daring then checked the forge and encountered two goblinoid-like creatures, they began to combat the creatures and after a few moments a large creature exploded from rubble inside the forge area. It was an undead beholder. The Daring was able to dispatch the creatures without too much difficulty, but they were all reminded of the last battle that had with Ghazan at their side, and what that Beholder had done to him. The group found a jewel encrusted holy symbol of Moradin, which was a small battlehammer.
The Daring then when to check out the final crumbled tower. As they approach, Chain devils came at them. The battle commenced and shortly after, chains sprang from the ground and restrained most of The Daring. For a few moments they knew fear, but they were able to collect themselves and end the battle shortly after.
The group then approached the tower and attempted to put the leaf-key into a gear shaped hole, and it didn’t work. The group then when back to investigate the burned building where they had fought the dwarves, but found nothing of use. After awhile of trying to figure the situation out, they realized that the leaf could be inserted into part of the hammer which then formed the key to be inserted into the gate. The gate opened and The Daring proceeded into the tower.
There were two stairwells going up and for dwarven statutes. The Daring knew that the treasure they sought was at the bottom of the tower so instead of using the stairs they investigated the statutes to attempt to find a way down. They discovered that each statute had one removable object attached to it. After a few attempts at switching the objects around on each statute, they unlocked the correct combination and the floor opened up in the middle of the room.
A large wolf-ape, violently fat, smelling of cheap liquor and warm sausage burp, demon rose up on a throne in the center of the room. He was named Schvalt He had a cat on his lap, which he tossed aside, revealing it had been a quasit covered a fur all along, who was named Knap. They tried some attempts at persuading the demon to work with them, which resulted in the demon saying that The Daring sure looked tasty, and the battle commenced.
Which the exception of Du’tch’s eldritch blasts reflecting off the demon and bouncing back at Du’tch, the battle was relatively straight forward. Drake took the brunt of the Demon’s attacks and was standing with just a single hit point when the Demon was vanquished. Unknown to everyone but Yip, Knap had been invisible, and he attacked Drake with his quarterstaff, landing a blow and dropping Drake unconscious, just before Yip splatted him with his hammer.
It should be noted that when Schvalt was vanquished, he released his bowels, much as a Hippo does, and sprayed Leo in a demonic shart slurry.
As The Daring began to collected themselves and address their injuries, the looted a magical quarterstaff and a non-magical dagger, which had been on a chain around Schvalt’s neck.
The Daring began discussing plans to conduct a long rest before delving further into the Dungeon, but while they were talking they heard a strange noise in the distance. They looked out through the opening in the gate and saw two airships in the distance, which unfurled the banners of Baron Rajiram, the Storm Giant. At that same moment the gate’s locking mechanisms reset themselves and the gates to the tower closed. With the Storm Giant and his forces just moments away, The Daring no longer had time for a long
rest and needed to get that Treasure as soon as possible.
